  • Check Your Tyres – It’s important that your tyres provide enough grip on the road during the winter, as ice and rain can cause skidding and slipping. This is why you should check that your tyres have enough tread. Alternatively, you can swap to specialists winter tyres.


  • Create a Winter Breakdown Kit – Though you can breakdown at any time of the year, breaking down in the winter is a lot more common as the roads are worse and many vehicles struggle to perform well in the cold. It’s important to have a winter breakdown kit to hand, as a way to ensure that you are safe and warm whilst you wait for assistance. A winter breakdown kit should include food, water, a torch, a blanket, a scraper and some form of de-icer. After all, you don’t know how long you’ll be waiting.


  • Check the Battery – It doesn’t matter how new your battery is, there’s always the chance that it can fail when the temperature drops. To avoid being stranded and unable to drive, check the battery and replace it if necessary. Even the best batteries can struggle in winter.


  • Have Your Car Professionally Serviced – Make sure that your vehicle is safe to drive this winter with a professional car check. This will allow you to relax, knowing that an expert has checked everything over before you head out and drive.
